bloodgood maple

here is the start of the japanese influenced garden, it’s just a little corner.

I’m going to stain the fence black and I would really like to move the shed but that is apparently quite tricky if you don’t want to take it apart first, which I don’t.

That maple I’ve had for just under three years as I bought it not long after I moved in here.  It’s a bloodgood, and stays that colour for most of the year before turning scarlet in the autumn.  Fantastic colour.

Since that photo the fence and that side of the shed have been painted black and the wall white, and the stone edging has been blasted with the pressure washer making it a totally different colour lol

Since I can’t go out and do anything in the garden because a. ankle injury and b. raining since Sunday I have been watching gardening programs and trying to design my garden.  I did measure it last week to get a more accurate measurement as I had always just guessed before.  I have approx 200m2 or 2240 square feet (?) to play with.

I have been wanting to move the shed since I moved in since it blocks most of the garden from view of the house/patio but it’s going to be difficult and since I am feng shui-ing my garden, that might be a bad thing to move it.  So instead, I am leaning towards a series of garden “rooms” since the garden is kinda in six sections – patio, top garden, sheds, lawn, gravel square, horrible weeded/nettle area.

My plan so far (on paper) involves shaping the lawn from being a big rectangle into something curved and using the areas that I dig up as beds/borders.  One side of the garden is shady because of the cypress, the other is full sun (when it shines!) so the planting would have to be different.  The gravel square I think I am going to turn into english formal, and the weedy/nettle area at the bottom is going to be mainly vegetable garden when I finish.  I already pulled up most of the weeds by the roots but the whole thing (50 square metres) needs to be dug.  If I can dig up the lawn turf properly I may be able to reuse some of it around the vegetable plots.

The mini greenhouse I ordered arrived today as the rain bounced off the pavement.
