I didn’t get to update you all on my progress before I hurt my leg but I did manage to get quite a lot done – and I took pictures!

I did dig up the bottom of the garden and discovered what was probably a base for an old shed or something – about 2m deep x 5m wide so that gives me less space for my veggie garden but a nice “patio” at the bottom of the garden and a path to the back gate without having to worry about laying paving.  It looks like it’s been there for a long time and while I was digging I found some old crisp packets that had a use by date of 1998!!!  And all still in perfect condition which just shows how long a crisp packet would take to degrade in a landfill site!

I cleared all the evil nettles out as much as possible – some of the roots were link multilayered spaghetti and the roots were about 2cm thick!!! so the ground is all back to bare dirt and I built some raised beds for my veg.

I have rhubarb crowns, strawberry plants, garlic, raspberries, potatoes and onions on order which can all get planted before the ground gets too cold.  Oh and I have a lot of spring flowering bulbs on order too so hopefully I will be fit enough to dig them all into the garden before its too late.  :scared:

Then after xmas I plan to add some jerusalem artichokes, globe artichokes and asparagus which are all perennial plants, and then the usual veg in the spring.  That takes care of the bottom of the garden lol

I have a neglected gravel garden which is about 5m x 5m which I am thinking about making into a herb garden but that is still in the planning stages.
