My vegetable garden I’m planning this year, is going to be completely organic but I’m dreading it, as there are so many things that can be helping themselves.  I haven’t seen any rodents or rabbits or foxes or squirrels but I’m sure they must be there, hiding somewhere, just waiting for the veg to get big and juicy before they pounce.

What I’m mainly concerned with are the slugs and snails which I have seen in action before in previous gardens, and I forget off hand how many teeth they have but it could be something like 125000.  I can’t be bothered checking and that might be a couple of zeroes too many but that’s still a lot of teeth to munch through my plants.  I have read advice from some gardeners who say just squish the bugs or whatever in your fingers but the thought of that makes me shudder.  I used to use homemade garlic sprays before so I guess I could try that again, and some mild soap sprays.  The snails are a concern though and it wasn’t that long ago that I learned that using snail pellets could also kill the birds that eat the snails that eat the pellets, so I can’t in good conscience use those.

I don’t mind sharing to an extent but I am hoping that my natural deterrents will work and that the garden will work in harmony to keep everything in balance, so that I get enough and I can also feed some of the wildlife at the same time… and my friends and family and neighbours lol
