You know, I didn’t think it was possible to be a fat vegan – I used to think you couldn’t have a fat vegetarian either but a lot of vegetarians eat a lot of fattening foods – pizzas, cheese, processed foods, convenience foods, crisps, chocolate etc, and not so much vegetables.
I thought I’d be pretty safe being a vegan and eliminating fattening dairy foods, but you can still get unhealthy, high calorie vegan foods if you look around. Lots of dairy substitutes and processed convenience foods, that’s the real problem.
I think the image of the thin, unfed looking vegetarian is really a leftover from the 1970s hippy look where they probably were living on vegetables and grains and not loads of convenience foods, but now we just have so much to choose from in the supermarkets. Supermarkets are the devil!
