I looked at the apple trees this morning and the roots are bone dry, no moisture whatsoever and no buds on the trees. Prospects?
I’ve stuck them in a bucket of water at the back door for now. Don’t think I should plant them looking like that.
My bamboo did not like all the snow and frost we had and all the leaves have gone yellow and fallen off. I’ve been waiting for weeks now to see if there is any sign of new growth but zilch so far. I think there’s a one-year guarantee on them so I might be able to get them replaced but the thing is that it said they were “hardy” so I didn’t expect any problems despite the snow, and I had them covered with fleece for extra protection when I saw how bad the weather was going to be, and kept them watered, but it seemed to make no difference.
Does anyone have experience with bamboo and cold weather? It currently looks like a bunch of dead sticks It was the black bamboo too and I was so looking forward to seeing it get bigger this year, it was so pretty.
My other bunch of dead sticks, aka the dogwood, have survived all winter (and feet of snow) in a bucket of water which was often frozen solid, and have now started to sprout leaves! Wow, I had kinda given up on it.
Plan for today is to try and get the asparagus, raspberries, rhubarb, strawberries and artichokes planted in the garden before they all die.
