After all the wind and rain at the weekend, I checked the forecast for this week and this is what I have to look forward to IN FREAKING JULY!!!
I don’t generally complain about the weather. It is what it is. But the wind yesterday was really really strong and it snapped off one of my plants. I’m really upset about it and yes there were even tears yesterday. After two months of training the Golden Hop up the arch and it reaching the top and starting to make it’s way over to the other side, the wind blew the arch and the trellis panels I had resting against it completely over flat onto the ground snapping all the Golden Hop runners off in the process. I was so upset about my plant and so mad at myself for leaving the trellis panels propped up and completely unsecured against the arch. I guess that’s what I get but did it have to be that plant?
The Jerusalem artichokes were getting battered about yesterday too so I had to go out and stake them up just in case they snapped off too, but today they are looking OK. Also tied up the fruit trees. This morning a lot of the herbs like the dill and other taller ones are a bit flat, so are the onions and some of the garlic and even the broccoli didn’t escape a battering by the wind. While I was checking the broccoli I also found three little green caterpillars munching on them – I guess the net is either pretty useless or put up too late.
